Enlarged Spleen
A myMPNteam Member asked a question 💭

When I was diagnosed with PV, my hematologist palpated my spleen and said it seemed ok. She has not checked it again in past 20 months. So, I just had my gall bladder removed and surgeon said spleen was enlarged 3x normal. I emailed hematologist but she doesn’t seem concerned. Do your doctors monitor the size of your spleen? Just wondering what I should do.

I was recently (Oct 2021) diagnosed with PMF. I had a recent 3 month check up, and my oncologist palpated my spleen as part of the check up. My spleen is only mildly enlarged right now and not painful. I expect he will continue to palpate at future check ups in addition to blood work.

So, to update, I finally had an ultrasound done. My spleen is 19cm. Dr palpates on each visit now. She has not started me on meds yet, as controlling rbc with phlebotomy and wbc and platelets in range. If symptoms increase, I she is talking about putting me on Jakafi. Wait and see.

Each visit my dr checks my spleen. It has stayed down in size as long as I stay on Jakafi

I had my ultrasound done today of my spleen and liver, I should have my results by Friday. It is already enlarged so they want to see if it has grown since my last ultrasound.
