Who Is Taking Jakavi?
A myMPNteam Member asked a question 💭

Good afternoon! I started with Jakavi in April 22 with 20mg/day. In November '22 I had to increase it to 30mg and this week the hematologist increased it to 40mg. Who is taking the Jakavi in the group? How was the evolution? How long did it take to get to the proper dosage?
Thanks to anyone who can give me feedback.

Why Are Doctors So Reluctant To Use The Word Cancer In MPNs Or To Dismiss Quality Of Of Life Impact?
A myMPNteam Member asked a question 💭

I noticed that both my hematologists avoid to use the word cancer when talking to me. When I got the diagnosis, the hematologist downplayed ET so much, despite the fact that I was in fever, pain and had so much brain fog I had to take a nap during the appointment. All these are ET symptoms, but apparently not for my doctor. So I was fine in his eyes. Being young was the reason
This was very detrimental as my partner thought and still thinks that ET is a bit like a headache, nothing scary, and… read more

Is There A Way, A Test, Blood Test, Etc. To Find Out When We Actually Acquired Our MPN, And/or When It Activated Itself?
A myMPNteam Member asked a question 💭

Many of us myself included have said we noticed changes in our bodies and self and symptoms long before we were actually diagnosed.

This bothers me bc I want and need to know, as do we all.

It’s wrong to go by the date we were diagnosed.

Anyone? Thoughts?🤔

Have You Had A Helicobacter Pylori Infection Before Or After Your MPN Diagnosis?
A myMPNteam Member asked a question 💭

I noticed that in my case my increase in platelets happened after a helicobacter pylori infection. The diagnosis of ET came years later, but the stable increase in platelets happened 2-3 years after the eradication of h.pylori
There are several documented cases of thrombocythemia concomitant with h.pylori infection, but thrombocythemia resolved once the infection was eradicated
There are studies that show that this type of infection is more common in people with MPNs than in people without… read more

Difficulty With Diagnosis
A myMPNteam Member asked a question 💭

I am hoping someone can help. I am 37 years old, and had a bone biopsy a few months ago to see if a vertebral lesion was malignant. It came back negative for a metastasis, but showed myelofibrosis. I was referred to a hem/onc who does not think it's an MPN because of my age. I just did 23 and me DNA testing, and it came back positive for the JAK2 mutation. The hem/onc now wants to do a bone marrow biopsy, but I don't think it's necessary as I have all of the diagnostic criteria for Primary… read more
