Of course no single shoe fits everyone’s foot ; so simply know this is what had been helpful for me.

What ever night time you normally retire to bed, attempt to be consistent each night with the goal of getting the normal average of 8 hours. If you need to eat something, try blueberries.

Have your vitamin D levels checked. If low, 1 tablet equaling 1000 iu (international units) daily with a meal preferably breakfast.

Eat healthy. Include berries, particularly blueberries. An apple a day is also helpful.

A lot of the rest of this involves diet. Reason being is that it is important for energy and may effect how we feel. Diabetics, adhere to your necessary diets. Pairing natural peanut butter with apple slices as a mid-afternoon snack will balance the sugar content.

Get exercise daily even if it may be as simple as house cleaning, climbing and descending steps, a nice stroll around the neighborhood, whatever suits you.

Those on Jakafi: know that the drug changes how fat is metabolized. It also may stress the liver. Liver out of wack creates both fatigue and itching that adds to the problem because then you can’t rest or sleep.

In addition to carbs, You should watch both your meat and fat intake. This is controversial among some who understand well that Jakafi is responsible for weight gain and a keto diet will help keep it off. I did keto after the first 10 pounds and my liver enzymes got out of wack; I had to stop that. A liver friendly diet, may cause weight gain. Fill up on salads, omitting the dressings, etc. Develop a taste for beets. Hard boiled eggs are good rather than scrambled or fried.

I look forward to how others deal with fatigue and their MPN.

Hello All;
At 72 and still running my business fatigue is ever lasting. I take 1000mg. of Hydroxyurea daily. With polycythemia vera, the drug lowers the hematacrit level or red blood cell count. that being said I have been struggling with low iron levels which is often overlooked when it comes to fatigue. The problem is when taking this drug, iron supplements can raise the already present clotting issues from the disease. Red meat consumption may help with the energy levels. Also
I drink Propel to help. Stay active physically and mentally, but most importantly
spiritually. And remember, If you lay down, you will stay down!

I am 72 with ET. Like most of you I am always tired but have sleep problems.
My son found me up at 2am one day and asked what was wrong. I told him I was having one of those nights where I can’t sleep. He gave me one CBD for sleep and told me to go to bed. I felt so relax the next morning no headache, didn’t fill tired and a little hungry. Now when and only when I have trouble sleeping I ask him for one CBD. There are different kinds so if anyone is going to try this make sure you get the one for sleep. Its help me and my Dr. said it was fine to take every so often. Everyone is different but it could help.

You platelets may be higher than expected because of the frequency of phlebotomy. The phlebotomy frequency also aggravated my ventricular rhythm issues and I was hospitalized a couple of times, while in the ER frequently, too. I have PV, also. While the frequent phlebotomy I needed to undertaken to bring down my RBCs, my platelets also shot up. Blood loss encourages platelets increase.

Are you on medication? HU ? Or Jakafi ? I took HU until it became toxic to me( I now take Jakafi which has given me back my life reducing my symptom burden despite some other issues as side effects— managing. My counts are pretty ok and my platelets have been coming down. I had two phlebotomies when I first began Jakafi and haven’t had any since.

I hope you and your MD can figure it out. I know intimately well what you are going through because I was once there and worse. You may wish to ask your doctor about medication alternatives.

Listen to your body. I take a nap everyday after lunch if possible. Get 8-9 hrs. of sleep at night, don't drink water after 7p, eat a nutritious diet, get some exersize everyday. Listen to your Dr. and don't be afraid to discuss things with him....Marge
