I have been experiencing it for about two years. Now that I am under treatment, should I expect the gout to go away if my numbers are reduced to normal levels?
Has anyone found alternate treatments to reduce gout attacks? I am already taking Allopurinol.
Robert I don't get gout but I was recently put on Allopurinol because my Uric Acid levels went out of range. I really don't like taking it because since I started, it seems to have made my osteoarthritis much worse in my back and hip and now my knees hurt (which they never did before). I tried not taking it and my UA shot right back up so now I am trying half the dose (100mg instead of 200mg).
I would think if your Uric Acid levels come down to normal levels your gout would get better but I really don't know. I think that may be a time will tell type of thing.
I recently read something from Dr. David Perlmutter about Luteolin acting like Allopurinol. It can be found in foods such as celery, lettuce, chili peppers, parsley and a bunch of other foods. I have no idea about any of this but I am going to try incorporating more of those foods into my diet to see if it makes a difference (good thing about getting my blood drawn every 3 weeks is I can experiment a bit and not have to wait long to see if it's working :-) )
Hope your gout gets better soon.
Get the book Drop Acid by Dr. David Perlmutter. It has amazing information about the connection between uric acid and many health issues. He is at the front end of research on this.
He has a supplement regime he recommends that I have started. He also has several dietary suggestions. I am still taking the allopurinol as well. I'll report back if my gout improves.
Allopurinol reduced my Uric acid #s and I haven’t had a problem in over a year
Hi again, Robert! Unfortunately, there is no actual cure for gout. There is an article that I think will answer some of your questions. You are already taking allopurinol which has always been the gold standard of treatment for years. This article focuses on MPN patients who have gout which is a frequent problem for many.
