I have had a problem with really severe itching for at least 10 years. The itching in my case only happened after showers or baths! Apparently and according to my MPN Consultant this is extremely common. I have tried so much- I started on a daily regular Antihystemine - which worked for a while. Then it got worse. I went to an MPNVoice Forum and one of the audience spoke about her method of dealing with it. She didn’t bath or shower! She purchased a portable bidet and used this for her ‘bits’ and then uses wipes on the rest of her skin. She was a very inspirational speaker and Max who runs the forums confirmed that the lady in question did not smell at all!
I discussed my problem with my oncologist and he prescribed fexofenadine Hydrochloride 180 mg tablets - 1 daily! This definitely helped me but I did still get some itching- so I also take a regular shop bought antihistamine about an hour before showering or bathing. So far so good!
My consultant has also prescribed some menthol creme which also helps- that is called ARJUN CREAM 2%Menthol in Aqueous cream. I would definitely advocate using this after bathing!

Hi After I started taking two baby aspirin the days I shower, then it got better plus a half dose of Claritin. Also I have skin lotion with hydrocortisone I use after I shower but not all the time. Hope you feel better soon. Good luck!🙂

Hi,
I have tried many antihistamines alone or in combination for my itching, without too much success. The only thing that really worked is to have 1g beta-alanine 30 min before the bath (shower), which prevents the itching crisis to arrise. Beta-alanine is a supplement used by athletes to enhance their resistance to effort. Bare in mind, if one takes more than 1.5 g of beta-alanine, it can get the opposite effect , meaning itching. It worth mentioning that the itching caused by a biger beta-alanine dose has a different manifestation comparing with the MPN one (more beareable).
Also, when taking beta-alanine, you might get a strange sensation on your face ( not annoying) - at least in my case.

Best of luck

That's awful, Eugene. I hope you'll soon get suggestions about what can help.

Couldn't hurt to mention this to your doctor . . .
