It is a important to distinguish the different types of numbness-tingling that can occur in relation to MPNs and their treatment.

MPN related paresthesia is a known phenomenon. While not completely understood, it is likely related to microvascular/thrombotic issues. Erythromelalgia is also a well know MPN microvascular symptom.

Peripheral neuropathy may have similar symptom, but a different cause. As the name implies, it is related to nerve dysfunction. There are different types of peripheral neuropathy. "Peripheral neuropathy can be divided into mono-neuropathies, multifocal neuropathies, and poly-neuropathies, with further subclassifications into axonal, demyelinating, or mixed types."

Peripheral neuropathy can occur independently of MPNs. Peripheral neuropathy is also a potential adverse effect associated with some medications used to treat MPNs, Thalomid (Thalidomide), Revlimid (Lenalidomide), and Hydrea (hydroxyurea).

It is important to review this symptoms with a MPN Specialist. You may also need assessment by a neurologist to assess the issue.
