I was diagnosed last yr after almost passing out with a chainsaw in hand. I’m on hydroxy 500 mg daily. I also have chronic back pain and sorts don’t doesn’t help. My body always hurts, showers suck cause I itch like crazy. Everything I do wears me out and I hurt all to hell. There’s so many other things and it can be overwhelming. I was a construction worker for 24 yrs and now can’t even open a garage door without throwing out my back.

I believe that accepting what we can’t change, doing our part to stay otherwise healthy and keep our MPN stable, stay as active as possible and be grateful for what is good in our lives are key to coping. These don’t keep away the difficult times of flareups and transitions, but doing our best to go with the flow is very helpful. All the best to you.

I try to enjoy little pleasures each day—whether they be playing with my only grandson or tending to my garden or hugging my small pup who lost his sister two weeks ago! Try to find something positive in your life and be truly grateful 💕

Living with MPNs can be mentally and physically exhausting, especially when dealing with symptoms like pain, fatigue, and itching. It's completely normal and valid to feel overwhelmed by these changes, particularly when they affect your ability to do things you used to do easily.

Many people with MPNs experience higher rates of depression and anxiety than the general population. These feelings often stem from the significant life changes and physical challenges that come with the condition. Here are some ways to help manage the mental and emotional challenges:

• Work with your healthcare team to address both physical and mental health needs
• Practice mindfulness techniques to help stay present and manage stress
• Connect with family members and friends for support
• Consider talking to a mental health professional who understands chronic illness
• Focus on activities you can still do rather than those you cannot
• Take breaks when needed and pace yourself through daily activities

Remember that your feelings are valid, and it's okay to grieve the changes in your life while learning to adapt to new circumstances.
