I’ve been diagnosed with an MPN almost 25 years, first with ET and then in 2023 with PV.

I have been on Hydrea all of this time, but for one year in the first 5 or so on Anegrelide.

My hematologist at the time took me off of it because of the potential for severe side effects, tho I don’t remember at this point what those side effects were.

I was on Hydrea with horrible GI issues. Placed on Angrelide, within two weeks my blood pressure shot up, my mood changed drastically and they took me off immediately. I’m on Pegasys now with no issues and great number: 298!

Have you or others taken Anagrelide or Aranesp for your MPN condition?

Anagrelide is commonly used to treat myeloproliferative neoplasms, particularly essential thrombocythemia (ET). It's a platelet-specific medication that lowers platelet counts by reducing the production of megakaryocytes, the cells that create platelets. It doesn't affect red and white blood cell numbers.

Anagrelide is also sometimes used for polycythemia vera (PV) patients who have elevated platelet counts, though it's most effective for ET. It can help decrease the risk of blood clots by reducing platelet levels.

Common side effects include:
* Headaches
* Heart palpitations
* Fluid retention
* Diarrhea

Important considerations:
* Avoid grapefruit and grapefruit juice while taking anagrelide, as they interact with the medication
* Regular monitoring and blood work are typically needed every three to four months during treatment
* Your doctor will watch for potential side effects and lab abnormalities
