In PMF, scar tissue (fibrosis) builds up in the bone marrow, making it harder to produce healthy blood cells. However, there is an important connection worth knowing. In rare cases, PMF can transform into acute myeloid leukemia (AML), which is a more aggressive blood cancer. This is why regular monitoring and check-ins with your doctor or hematologist are so important — catching any progression early gives the best chance of a good outcome.
