What could be causing your daily stomach aches with essential thrombocythemia, and how can you reduce them?

Abdominal discomfort with ET is most commonly related to your spleen. When you have ET, your spleen can become enlarged (called splenomegaly) as it takes over some blood cell production and filters abnormal cells. Since the spleen sits on the left side of your body next to your stomach, this enlargement often causes discomfort in the upper abdomen, particularly on the left side.

You might also experience:
* Feeling full quickly when eating (early satiety)
* Loss of appetite
* Pain under your ribs
* Unwanted weight loss

Until you see your hematologist, some things that may help include:
* Eating smaller, more frequent meals instead of large ones
* Avoiding foods that cause bloating or gas
* Staying well-hydrated
* Tracking when the pain occurs to share patterns with your doctor

It's great that you have an appointment coming up. Your hematologist can examine your spleen, possibly order imaging tests, and adjust your treatment plan if needed to help reduce the discomfort. Be sure to describe the location, intensity, and timing of your stomach aches in detail.
