Yes, I’ve been taking it for years. It sure has helped with lung/asthma issues—not sure re PV, but so far, so good.

Has anyone with polycythemia vera (PV) used N-acetylcysteine (NAC)?
While NAC isn't commonly discussed among myMPNteam members in relation to PV treatment, there is some early research suggesting it might have potential benefits. NAC is primarily used as a medicine for acetaminophen poisoning, but as a supplement, it has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.
Some research in mice has shown that NAC may help prevent blood clots in people with PV. However, it's important to note that clinical trials in humans are still needed to determine if NAC can actually improve PV symptoms or provide real benefits.
Before considering NAC or any supplement, it's essential to talk with your doctor. They need to ensure it won't interact with your current PV medications and that it's safe for your specific situation. Your doctor should have a complete list of everything you're taking, both over-the-counter and prescription.
Remember that supplements shouldn't replace proven PV treatments like phlebotomy, low-dose aspirin, or medications prescribed by your hematologist.

I think NAC helps with inflammation. Inflammation is part of the disease process for PV.
