Is there a new interferon about to be FDA approved for MPNs?

There are currently two interferons that have already received FDA approval for treating MPNs:

- Peginterferon alfa-2a (Pegasys)
- Ropeginterferon alfa-2b (Besremi)

These are newer formulations that have proven safer and more effective than older versions, which had more severe side effects. Research and clinical trials are still ongoing to find even better interferon formulations. It's always worth asking your hematologist or MPN specialist about the latest developments, as they'll have the most up-to-date information on anything new coming through the pipeline.

Common side effects of current interferons to be aware of include:

- Flu-like symptoms
- Fatigue
- Nausea and vomiting
- Difficulty concentrating
- Low blood cell counts
- Muscle and bone pain

Most people find these side effects become more manageable over time.
