Recovery from a bone marrow biopsy (BMB) is generally pretty quick for most people. Here's what to typically expect:

- Immediately after: Some soreness and bruising at the biopsy site is normal
- First 24–48 hours: Most people feel well enough to return to light daily activities
- Within a week: The soreness usually fades significantly for most people

A few helpful tips for recovery:

- Keep the bandage on and the site clean and dry for at least 24 hours
- Avoid strenuous activity for a day or two
- Over-the-counter pain relief (like acetaminophen) can help with soreness — but check with your doctor first, especially if you're on MPN medications
- Watch for signs of infection like increased redness, swelling, or fever

Since MPN treatment can put you at a higher risk of bleeding, it's especially important to monitor the biopsy site closely and contact your doctor if you notice persistent bleeding or any signs of infection.

Everyone's experience is a little different, so it's always a good idea to ask your care team what to expect based on your specific situation. 😊

Mine went very well, I felt pain but was prepared mentally for it. No recovery time.

They gave me a mild sedative. Then
Injected my hip bone with a local anesthetic. It was quick but I felt the needle and bone pain.

Awake? You are brave….I had sedation. I told them I didn’t want to feel or hear anything!
