After 7 months of taking hydroxyurea, my liver enzymes were elevated on a blood test, and I had to take medication to lower them. While everyone reacts differently to medications, my personal answer is yes — hydroxyurea can affect the liver. It is an effective and widely used treatment for ET, PV, and other blood disorders, but it can cause mild side effects on the liver or kidneys, especially when used long term or at high doses. I hope that with regular blood monitoring and proper medical follow-up, these risks can be well managed.
I was recently diagnosed with stage two ckd (chronic kidney disease), good times
I was on that at first now on Jakafi 20 mg 2x a day feel pretty good
P.S. and didn't notice any issues related to kidneys or liver.
I was on 500 to 1000 mg of HU for ten years. I never had an abnormal CMP.
