I’m on 500 mg twice a day of Hydrea. I get episodes of very hot then tired and confused.

Hello

My mom has been on HYDREA since 2020 no episodes of feeling hot , she doesn’t complain being tired , forgetful at times due to her age 92 , no issues or confusion with HYDREA other then being anemic . Please talk to your doctor concerning hot sweats especially during the night .

I’d talk to your hematologist about the side effects. Confusion is not ok and should be reported to your doctor right away. I was very tired with 1 a day so I switched from taking it in the morning to the evening until my body adjusted. The doctor may suggest a some dosing adjustments while you adapt.

Some myMPNteam members have noticed that timing their doses differently helped - like taking hydroxyurea before bed to avoid feeling tired during the day.

The episodes of feeling very hot could potentially be related to your MPN itself rather than just the medication. Facial flushing and feeling hot can occur with polycythemia vera due to elevated blood counts.

However, confusion is concerning and warrants immediate attention. If you're experiencing confusion along with these other symptoms, you should contact your doctor right away. This combination could indicate:
