Tonic water reduces platelets. Doctors probably won't like it but it works to some degree.

I have PV and take a GLP-1 medication. It’s not affecting my platelet count but my inflammation is lower for sure. Lower inflammation helps with side effects of PV but my platelets are the one number on my complete blood count that has always been in the normal range and so far have stayed pretty consistent.

Are you considering GLP-1 medications for essential thrombocythemia (ET)?
Currently, there isn't information available about GLP-1 medications being used specifically to treat ET or manage platelet counts in people with this condition. The standard treatments for ET focus on reducing platelet counts and preventing blood clots through different approaches.
Common treatments for ET include:
- Low-dose aspirin to reduce clotting risk
- Hydroxyurea (chemotherapy) to reduce platelet formation
- Anagrelide to lower platelet production
- Interferon alfa for high-risk patients
Some myMPNteam members have explored dietary approaches to help with inflammation and platelet management, including turmeric and other anti-inflammatory foods, though results vary from person to person.
Since GLP-1 medications aren't established treatments for ET, it's essential to discuss this with your hematologist before trying them. They can evaluate whether this approach makes sense for your specific situation, especially considering your concerns about iron levels and how it might interact with your current ET management plan.
